Pansy and Peony Set for Girls

Pansy Peony front 2

Goodness it’s been ages! Well I again just couldn’t pass up testing this pattern set from Tie Dye Diva. It’s so cuuuuuute! The moment my girl saw the pretest pics for this set she asked me to make them for her. When a child asks you to make something you have to. You just do 😉

Pansy Peony side

Let’s start with the Peony Ruffle top*. It’s available in sizes 12 months to 10 years, has cropped or regular length, tiers, on or off shoulder, and ties. I love that it can be made in a wide variety of woven fabrics including quilting cotton which is perfect for kids because usually those have the really adorable and fun prints. My girl’s chest falls into size 3 (even though she’s 6 years old, always go by the pattern’s size chart), and I lengthened to size 5. The pattern includes detailed instructions on achieving the perfect fit for your child’s measurements.

test version

This testing version is in a fun quilting cotton I had leftover from this birthday dress, made off the shoulder ties with cropped length (these are paired with the Pansy shorts in a completely modified version of the testing pattern, the final pattern is different). I can totally see her wearing this to a fun beach boardwalk outing!

My final version is the same options as my previous top, but I made it in a lightweight cotton dotted swiss that has silver strands woven in. It’s actually slightly transparent but works well with this pattern even unlined. This top is actually pretty quick to make, especially if you omit the ties and elastic for the cropped version, but it’s definitely worth the little bit of extra time because it’s soooo sweet!

Pansy Peony back

Now the Pansy Petal shorts* are going to be made in quantity at my house this year because they’re seriously cute, easy, and comfortable! They’re available in sizes 12 months to 10 years, include a variety of hem finishes (fun way to use that trim we have had in our stashes for years!), and have a pocket option.

My girl’s hips fall into size 2T (again she’s 6 years old so this is like a mental hurdle y’all), and she falls into size 5 for height, and using the fit modifications in the pattern I was able to achieve a perfect fit! Since she really can never fit ready to wear shorts well, it’s nice to be able to sew my little skinny miss some shorts that fit, and they’re so adorable. These can also be made in quilting cotton, but I used a lightweight chambray with a crocheted lace trim and a fun little yellow flower detail that my girl insisted on including. I agree!

We love these patterns so much, and I will be making more shorts for my oldest because I just realized she has NO shorts and the weather is warm, so… but she doesn’t like ruffles or lace so we’re going with bias tape trim. I’ll be sharing those soon!
