The Allium Dolman for Ladies

Allium Dolman

It’s no surprise that as soon as Sew Like My Mom released the Tulipa Dolman, everyone was asking for the ladies’ version.  Well here it is!  The Allium Dolman is now available in sizes XXS all the way through 3XL and on sale through tomorrow.

There are several combinations available with this pattern, including top, tunic, and dress, short or long sleeves, in-seam pockets, and gathered or flat front.  Depending on the type of knit fabric your select (or woven for the gathered front version), this pattern can take on a variety of looks.  I can’t wait to get a few more free moments to sew up some more of them.  I really love some of the other testers’ versions!

I’ve been swamped lately, but I just couldn’t pass up testing this pattern!  I love testing for Melissa, her groups are always so fun.  Anyway, when selecting our size we began by using our high bust measurements.  I did notice that many of the testers decided to size down after their first muslins because they preferred the more fitted look of the dolman.  I began with a size XS even though my high bust is 33″ (I typically wear an XS in her patterns).  I ended up sizing down to an XXS and took in this striped version (it began as an XS, then I shaved down the sides and underarm, so this isn’t perfect for the final dress, but you get the idea).

Because of the way I reduced the size and the weight of my knit fabric, there’s some fabric pooling over my bottom in the back.  I’m only pointing this out because it’s not the pattern’s drafting, just my own fiddling with a muslin.  I do love this fabric though!  I picked it up at Fabric Outlet in their spandex knits section, and I had a dress just like this in mind when I bought it.  The weight of the fabric makes it perfect for cooler weather too, and I think it’ll look great paired with tights and boots.

I wasn’t able to finish my real XXS version because I took apart my sewing room to paint it and completely redo it, but I wanted to hop on today to share this pattern release with you.  I really love this one, and I already have some fabric combinations selected for more of them!  If you want to see some of the other versions, the other testers are sharing them in Sew Like My Mom’s Facebook group, so hop on over and take a look!
